During the Yuan Dynasty, after the Mongols conquered China, there was a policy that families needed to serve and provide lodging for Mongolian soldiers. This made the Teochews very angry, hence, they came together and decided to kill all Mongolian soldiers. After they managed to kill all the soldiers, the anger and hate in them did not reduce. Thus, they took taros (as it looked like the heads of the Mongolian soldiers), chopped it up into pieces and threw it in hot oil to fry.
